The Bronx has more big apartment buildings run by landlords than any other borough, and a lot of them are old. The art deco elevator buildings along the Grand Concourse went up in the 1920s and 30s with one-pipe steam, cast iron stacks, brass and galvanized risers and a boiler room the size of an apartment.
