Gas work in New York City is regulated harder than any other plumbing, for reasons the city learned the hard way. Only a licensed master plumber can repair, alter or install gas piping. Most jobs need a Limited Alteration Application filed with the Department of Buildings, a pressure test, and an inspection before the utility will turn the gas on. If Con Edison or National Grid shut your service after a leak, the gas stays off until all of that happens.

Our licensed master plumber files the Limited Alteration Application with DOB. Nothing gets cut until that is in.

Repair or installation
Corroded sections cut out and replaced with new black iron, joints made with gas-rated sealant, a drip leg and shutoff valve at each appliance, new listed connectors. New runs sized for the total BTU load on the line.

Pressure test
The system is capped, pressurized and held for the required duration on a gauge. Witnessed by the Department of Buildings when the job requires it.

Length and access

Local Law 157
Natural gas alarms are required in NYC residential units by January 1, 2027. One alarm in the same room as each gas appliance. Owners and boards are responsible for the initial installation, and we can supply and place them during any gas visit.
Utility territories

Preventing and Solving Common Gas Line Problems
Do not move the stove yourself
Pulling a range out to clean behind it stresses the connector. If it has to move, shut the gas cock first and check for odor after. Better still, let us put a proper connector and shutoff on it.
Replace old flex connectors
Uncoated brass connectors from decades ago crack and leak. Any connector over 10 years old or of unknown age gets replaced during a visit.
Watch the basement
Damp basements corrode black iron from the outside. Rust flaking off a gas line is worth a call the same week.
Install the alarms now
Natural gas alarms are inexpensive and the deadline is close. Put them in ahead of the deadline and ahead of your next Local Law 152 inspection.
