Fixture Installations Built for NYC Kitchens and Bathrooms

The fixture you bought was designed for a house with new plumbing and a plumber who could stand up under the sink. It is going into a New York City apartment where the supply lines come out of the wall at a slant, the shutoffs are frozen, the drain is two inches off from where the new sink wants it, and the cabinet is 22 inches deep because the kitchen used to be a closet. Getting it in right is the difference between a faucet that works for 20 years and one that drips in six months.

NYC Plumber Co installs fixtures in those conditions every day. New kitchen faucets on prewar galvanized stubs. Pressure-balanced shower valves in tiled walls in Tribeca lofts. Vanities and vessel sinks in Upper East Side co-ops with alteration agreements and a 9-to-4 work window. Garbage disposals in buildings that allow them, and the honest conversation in buildings that do not. Dishwasher hookups with an air gap or a high loop, done so the co-op inspector nods and moves on.

We also repair what we did not install. Cartridges, stems, seats, aerators, diverters, and the shutoffs and supply lines behind the fixture, which in this city are usually the part that actually needs replacing.

Our Fixture Installation Process, Step by Step

  1. 01

    Confirm the fit

Faucet hole count and spacing, sink cutout, drain location, valve rough-in depth, supply stub positions. We ask for the spec sheet or the model number before the visit.

  2. 02

    Check what is behind it

Shutoffs that turn, supply lines under ten years old, a drain tailpiece that lines up, a wall that can take a new valve. Anything that is not right gets priced before we start.

  3. 03

    Shut down and remove

Water off at the stops or the apartment, old fixture out, old putty, silicone and corrosion cleaned off the deck or the wall.

  4. 04

    Rough and adjust

New angle stops if the old ones are seized, supply extensions if the stubs are short, drain reworked to meet the new fixture, valve set to the correct depth for the tile.

  5. 05

    Install

Fixture set, sealed and secured. Faucets with the right supply lines, shower valves with the cartridge oriented correctly, sinks with the drain and trap assembled and aligned, disposals wired and mounted.

  6. 06

    Test wet

Hot and cold at full flow, drains run full, every joint checked dry, shower valve balanced so the temperature holds when the neighbor flushes.

  7. 07

    Cleanup and walkthrough

Packaging and old fixtures removed, cabinet wiped down, shutoffs and any maintenance shown, warranty paperwork left with you.

Fixtures Our Plumbers Install and Repair Across New York City

Kitchen faucets. Pull-down, bridge, pot fillers, filtered water taps, instant hot. Installed with new supply lines and stops so the last thing that fails is the faucet. Repairs for drips, low flow from a clogged aerator or a failing cartridge, and sprayers that lost pressure.

Shower and tub valves. Pressure-balanced and thermostatic valves that hold temperature when the building's pressure swings, which it does. Cartridge replacements for showers that only run hot or only run cold, diverter repairs, tub spouts, handheld conversions, and full valve replacements during a tile job.

Bathroom sinks and vanities. Vessel, undermount, pedestal and console sinks. Vanities in tight prewar bathrooms where the drain and the supplies were never where the new cabinet wants them. Pop-up drains that actually seal.

Tubs and shower bases. Alcove tubs, freestanding tubs with floor-mounted fillers, shower pans and linear drains. The drain and overflow assembly is where these leak, and it gets done right the first time or the neighbor finds out.

Garbage disposals and dishwashers. Disposal installs in buildings that permit them, replacements for humming or leaking units, and the plumbing side of a dishwasher install with the correct drain connection. We will tell you if your building's rules or your drain line say no.

Bidet seats, water filters and small appliances. Bidet seats on the toilet supply, under-sink filtration, ice maker lines, washer boxes. Small jobs that go wrong when the supply line is the cheapest one in the box.

What Affects the Cost of Faucet and Fixture Installation in NYC

The fixture

A standard faucet swap is quick. A wall-mounted faucet, a thermostatic shower system with body sprays, or a freestanding tub filler is a longer install with more rough-in work.

What has to change behind it

Seized shutoffs, short stubs, a drain that does not line up, a shower valve that needs the wall opened. This is where most of the cost lives on NYC jobs, and it is priced before we start.

Repair versus replace

A cartridge or an aerator is a small repair. A 30-year-old faucet with a discontinued cartridge is a replacement, and we tell you which before ordering anything.

Building requirements

Certificates of insurance, alteration agreements for anything the co-op considers more than a repair, work windows, and disposal rules. Manhattan buildings add process, and we handle it.

Supplying the fixture

You can buy the fixture or we can. Fixtures we supply come with supply lines, stops and mounting hardware chosen for your building's pipe and pressure.

NYC Plumbing Conditions Our Fixture Plumbers Work Around

Galvanized stubs and old shutoffs

Prewar supply stubs are galvanized, and the angle stops on them have not turned since the Koch administration. We replace the stops on almost every fixture job, because a new faucet on a seized shutoff is a flood waiting for a holiday weekend.

Drains that do not line up

New sinks and vanities put the drain where the old plumbing was not. Trap reworks, tailpiece extensions and sometimes moving the trap arm, all done so it drains and vents properly.

Pressure swings

Roof tanks, booster pumps and old risers make water pressure jump when the building wakes up. Pressure-balanced shower valves exist for this. We install them as the default.

Tile and finished walls

Shower valve replacement in a tiled wall means either a remodel plate on the tile side or an opening from the other side of the wall. We find the cheaper path before we cut.

Preventing and Solving Common Fixture Problems

Replace supply lines with the fixture

A new faucet on ten-year-old braided lines is half a job. Lines and stops are cheap, and they are what floods the apartment below.

Clean the aerator before calling

Low flow from a kitchen faucet is often debris in the aerator screen. Unscrew, rinse, reinstall. If it comes back fast, the problem is upstream and worth a visit.

Fix the drip

A dripping faucet is a worn cartridge or seat. It wastes water on a metered bill and it gets worse. A cartridge is a 30-minute repair.

Choose fixtures for the building

Wall-mounted faucets need blocking and a precise rough-in. Thermostatic valves need decent pressure. Ask before you buy, and we will tell you what works in your apartment.

What to Expect When You Hire NYC Plumber Co

A fit check before the visit

Model number and spec sheet reviewed against your rough-in, so the plumber shows up with the right adapters and stops.

The hidden work priced up front

Stops, supply lines, drain reworks and valve depth adjustments quoted before the old fixture comes out.

Clean, careful installation

Counters and cabinets protected, sealant applied cleanly, everything tested wet before we leave.

Repairs done honestly

When a cartridge fixes it, we replace the cartridge. When the fixture is done, you hear that with a price for the replacement.

New faucet in the box, shower stuck on cold, vanity waiting to go in anywhere in the five boroughs? Call (929) 717-4784 and a fixture installation plumber from NYC Plumber Co will get it done.

The faucet is the easy part. The seized shutoff and the galvanized stub behind it are the job. Replace those and the faucet lasts twenty years.
